Job Description

Salary Range: $42.57 - $59.83

 

Reporting to the Emergency Department (ED) Manager, the Emergency Department (ED) Flow Monitor is an ED based role and will be responsible for carrying out functions and activities to monitor and ensure that ED metrics are met to improve Pay for Results (P4R) targets. A primary focus of this role will be to improve metrics related to Provider Initial Assessment (PIA), ED minors patients and length of stay overall for admitted patients. This role will work closely with the ED Charge Nurses, ED physicians, ED staff, Shift Administrator / Flow Coach and inpatient Charge Nurses. The ED Flow Monitor proactively addresses ED flow issues and assists in the flow into and out of the hospital.

 

The ED Flow Monitor will also partner with the ED Manager, Educator and ED team (including Physicians); to ensure the uptake of patient flow and access improvement practices that will assist in improving Pay for Results (P4R) targets. The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

 

This position is not a Supervisor for the purpose of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its corresponding obligations and liabilities.

                                            

Posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change.

Hours are 7.5 hour shifts; 5 days per week; days, evenings and weekends.

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in good standing required 
  • Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience in Emergency Nursing required
  • Charge Nurse and discharge leadership experience required
  • Leadership skills in a healthcare environment required
  • Must have current CPR
  • Meditech documentation experience required
  • Experience in Quality Management, Process Management or Process Redesign and evaluation in health care preferred
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to function collaboratively in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) required.
  • Strong collaboration and negotiation skills to make and implement difficult, but necessary utilization decisions to support patient flow are necessary.
  • Excellent problem solving ability and crisis intervention skills.
  • Proven dedication to an interdisciplinary team approach required
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required.
  • ACLS required
  • Canadian Nursing Association Emergency Certification; PALS, TNCC, ENPC preferred
