Job Description

Salary Range: $44.51 - $52.98

 

Reporting to the Director of Operational Excellence, the Decision Support Specialist will user their data analytics and statistical expertise to transform data into insight for decision making. The Decision Support department is responsible for compiling accurate, timely data into meaningful information to help make informed, evidence based, operational and strategic decisions. Decision Support serves as the repository and owner of all non-financial information within the organization and supports the data analytics needs of the Hospital and the Cambridge North Dumfries Ontario Health Team (CND OHT). The team supports clinical and non-clinical programs in developing dashboards, scorecards, key performance indicators with appropriate targets, developing action plans to address issues and improve utilization, and acts as a knowledge resource and partner to senior and middle management.

 

The Decision Support Specialist will utilize their clinical knowledge to understand the needs of the organization and community for performance and quality improvement. They will be familiar with a broad range of reporting requirements to external agencies such as Ontario Health and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and will be skilled in data analytics, manipulation, mining, visualization, statistical analysis, performance reporting, and change management.  A clinical background or significant hospital experience is an asset.

This position will have a hybrid working model consisting of remote and onsite work.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Support Decision Making at all Levels

  • Promote information-driven decision making at all organizational levels
  • Apply high quality data (i.e. Health Records, Meditech, Case Costing, etc.) and information to support appropriate resource allocation and informed decision making at all levels

 

Dashboard Development

  • Work with Managers to identify and develop clinical performance and outcome indicators for their programs.
  • Develop dashboards, based on program needs, to support ongoing performance and quality measurement, planning, and reporting.

Data Analysis and Presentation

  • Assist Programs with interpretation, analysis, and presentation of clinical performance data and the development of action plans to address areas that require improvement.

  

 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Health Informatics/Information, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science or Health Administration, or other degree with significant hospital experience is required
  • 3-5 years’ current experience working in performance measurement or decision support in a hospital or other healthcare setting is an asset
  • Self directed and strong collaborative skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products (Excel, Access, Power BI, Power Apps) required
  • Knowledge experience with Microsoft SQL and SQL Reporting required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to present project and performance information clearly and concisely
  • Superior critical thinking skills and an ability to generate ideas and fresh perspectives
  • Proven track record managing competing demands and excellent organization skills
  • Familiarity with CIHI and Cancer Care Ontario data required (i.e. DAD, NACRS, OMHRS, NRS, ALR, SETP, WTIS)
  • Experience utilizing national and provincial Business Intelligence Tools (i.e. Intellihealth, IDS, CIHI Insight, iPort)
  • Knowledge of healthcare funding methodologies (HBAM and QBP) is an asset
  • Familiarity with Meditech Magic patient care system is a definite asset
  • The ability to thrive on change, work in a consultative and customer oriented capacity with others, and demonstrated analytical capability are required.
  • Knowledge and experience with Python and Flask is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required.
