Job Description

Salary: $31.059 - $32.075

Schedule:Rotating Shifts (Days, Evenings, Weekends, Statutory Holidays)

Shift: 8 hrs 

 

 

Position Summary:
Cambridge Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled and motivated General Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This full-time role involves working on a rotating shift schedule to support hospital operations by ensuring the hospital’s physical environment is safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance duties including routine repairs, preventative maintenance, installations, and responding to urgent service requests across various hospital systems and infrastructure. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Perform general maintenance and repair duties including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC support.

    • Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment to identify and resolve issues proactively.

    • Assist with maintenance and installation of hospital fixtures, furnishings, and mechanical systems.

    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests submitted through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

    • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and lift devices as required.

    • Support hospital staff by helping to maintain an environment that meets health, safety, and infection prevention standards.

    • Maintain records of work performed and materials used.

    • Assist trades personnel and contractors on site as needed.

    • Follow all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Post-secondary technical education (required)

  • Minimum of 3–5 years full-time experience in a commercial/industrial construction or maintenance environment

  • Hands-on experience in:

    • Wall construction, drywall, and taping

    • Plumbing (rough-in) and electrical work

    • HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS)

    • Hardware and fixture assembly

    • Flooring repairs (concrete, epoxy, VCT, sheet vinyl)

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot issues independently

  • Effective communication and planning skills

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced, team environment

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

  • Physically capable of lifting heavy objects and standing for long periods

  • Proven record of reliable attendance

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and mechanical systems

  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance O&M manuals, blueprints, and diagrams

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Basic computer skills for work order tracking (CMMS experience an asset)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Physically capable of lifting, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
