Job Description

Salary Range: $40.95 - $48.75

 

Position Summary:

As an integral member of the Environmental Services (ES) team, the Supervisor plays a key leadership role by leading the daily operations of the Housekeeping, Linen and Portering departments and provides oversight for other core support services such as Food Services, and Maintenance. The successful candidate will mentor, train, plan, organize, control and evaluate daily activities of the ES Department under the supervision of the Manager, ensuring the cleanliness of the hospital environment and the provision of the service in a cost effective manner while adhering to appropriate legislation. A key focus is ensuring quality standards are maintained through the performance of audits and feedback to staff. The successful candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of cleaning and infection control best practices (patient care and non-clinical areas) as per the PIDAC standards. The position entails planning/project responsibilities; supervising and developing human resources, including assigning duties and responsibilities. The successful candidate will foster a team atmosphere and contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. This position works rotating day, evening and weekend shifts.

The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains current knowledge of Infection Control Housekeeping Standards and ensures compliance with Hospital procedures
  • Develops on-going Quality Management Programs, evaluating and monitoring service standards, as well as ensuring standard policies and procedures are maintained
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Department resolves issues related to performance management, discipline, investigations, attendance management, etc.
  • Participates and attends committee meetings as required
  • Maintains supply inventories and cleaning equipment functionality
  • Develops policies and procedures and establishes priorities for Housekeeping services across the hospital, and ensures they are met hospital-wide
  • Provides oversight for maintenance issues as needed

Key Qualifications:

  • 3 to 5 years of current experience in support services in a Leadership/Supervisory capacity, specifically housekeeping teams in a hospital setting is required
  • Post-secondary education is required
  • Satisfactory completion and certification from one of the following 3 (required);
  • Environmental Services Course – Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)
  • Ontario Healthcare Housekeepers Association (OHHA)
  • Canadian Association of Environmental Management (CAEM)
  • Exceptional knowledge of environmental legislation, OH&S standards, and WHMIS requirements as they relate to the function of the department within a hospital setting is required
  • Thorough working knowledge of the properties and application of germicides and cleaning solutions
  • Understanding of various materials (flooring, upholstery and hard surfaces) and their cleaning requirements and techniques
  • Strong technical knowledge of Housekeeping, Linen, Food Services and Patient Transport required
  • Good working knowledge of Waste Management and recycling programs
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution strategies
  • Previous experience providing adult education and working in a union environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, Connexall and C-Board systems
  • Solid understanding of customer needs and client-centered service
  • Effective presentation and writing skills
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and team-building skills
  • Proven ability to supervise numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet demands and expectations
  • Ability to analyze, problem-solve, make recommendations for change, implement and evaluate
  • Regular attendance is required
