Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Inpatient Surgery & Allied Health

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved program in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the Ontario College of Occupational Therapy
  • Membership in Canadian and Ontario Association of Occupational Therapy
  • Clinical Experience in physical medicine occupational therapy
  • First level supervisory skills
  • Evidence of Continuing Education
  • Familiarity with computer systems

Responsibilities:

The Professional Practice Lead - Occupational Therapy carries a direct caseload.  This caseload may be located throughout different clinical programs.  The size of the caseload accommodates to the other Lead Occupational Therapy duties (minimum of approximately 80%).

  1. To plan and coordinate with the Manager of Inpatient Surgery & Allied Health, administrative processes, patient care programs, policies and procedures for the provision of a comprehensive Occupational Therapy Program.
  2. To evaluate the Occupational Therapy Program and recommend changes to the Manager of Inpatient Surgery & Allied Health
  3. To act as liaison between staff, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehab Technician, and Manager of Inpatient Surgery & Allied Health.
  4. To provide day-to-day direction of the Occupational Therapy services, including scheduling, prioritizing of caseloads and organizing/scheduling program meetings.
  5. To participate in hiring processes.
  6. To plan, organize and support the clinical orientation for Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and students and the Rehab Technician.
  7. To provide clinical support and supervision to Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and the Rehab Technician
  8. To act as clinical coordinator for all students and volunteers assigned to the Occupational Therapy department.
  9. To complete the clinical portion of the performance appraisals.
  10. To assist the Manager Inpatient Inpatient Surgery & Allied Health to promote staff awareness of best practice and safe processes.
  11. To review and update the Occupational Therapy Procedure Manual
  12. To provide input into the development, review and revision of the interdisciplinary policy and procedure manual related to practices affecting Occupational Therapy.
  13. To assist the Manager Inpatient Surgery & Allied health in management and review of Occupational Therapy capital, staffing and operating budgets.
  14. To initiate the purchase of Occupational Therapy equipment an supplies according to the approved budget, collaborating with other services as required
  15. To maintain communication with the other hospital programs
  16. To represent Occupational Therapy as the Professional Practice Lead and ensure provision of practice in accordance iwth College guidelines
  17. To perform other duities as assigned.
