Job Description

Salary

$26.162- $28.313

8 hrs 

 

 

Responsible to transcribe surgical pathology reports, autopsy and biopsy dictation. Prepares blocks and slides for consult and arranges the send-out and receipt of issued specimens.  Additional responsibilities include Synoptic reporting to Cancer Care Ontario, preparing and updating Pathology Office procedure manual, registration and accessioning of referred-in specimens, medical correspondence for pathology service, invoicing, reception/telephone and other clerical duties as assigned, including record keeping. Laboratory reception duties include greeting patients, registering, accessioning in Outpatient Laboratory Clinic. 

 

The successful incumbent must be able to manage a fast pace and high volume workload. Meeting expected turnaround times are crucial while productivity and accuracy standards are maintained. Must be experienced with laboratory and pathology terminology and able to communicate with pathologists regularly have a clear understanding of and using pathology & histology-specific terminology.  The Clerical Associate must also be able to perform additional administrative duties as required. 

 

The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

 

Posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Medical Office Admin course
  • Completion of Medical Terminology course required
  • Minimum 3-5 years recent medical transcription experience required, particularly in pathology/laboratory
  • Medical transcription experience for Surgical and medico-legal Autopsies required
  • Edit-scrip transcription software/dictation experience preferred
  • Meditech experience preferred
  • Proficiency in pathology terminology essential
  • Ability to meet or exceed 200 minutes/day of transcribed work with over 80% accuracy required
  • Competency in Voice Recognition Dictation system required
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office, in particular MS Word required
  • Excellent communication skills (proficiency in English writing and grammar) required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Typing speed of 65wpm and evidence of a high standard of accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
