The Charge Nurse reports to and supports the Department Manager in the coordination of the daily operations of the clinical unit. This front line leader is responsible and accountable for departmental goals and objectives while maintaining high quality focused patient and family- centered care. The Charge Nurse assists or facilitates team members to coordinate and integrate services using the resources of a Multi-Disciplinary team to provide efficient patient flow and care excellence.
The scope of duties includes but is not limited to attending/leading daily multi-disciplinary team; assisting the surgical team with endoscopic procedures; providing patient care before, during and after the procedure; and education of patients about treatments; determining appropriate admissions, participate in planning the coordination, continuity and implementation of patient’s level of care. This professional leader utilizes clinical expertise in the managing of the department including staffing, assignments, patient flow and prepares/delegates patient care assignment based on acuity and The Three Factor Framework from the CNO. The successful incumbent will play a key role and participates in the Accreditation process in collaboration with the Clinical Manager; works in collaboration with the Physicians and multidisciplinary team to facilitate patient care and discharge planning.
The Charge Nurse acts as a role model to mentor staff and promote exceptional professional practice in day-to-day patient care delivery through promotion of CNO Standards of Practice and ongoing professional development of self, peers, colleagues and others. Must be supportive and demonstrate leadership in implementation of Strategic tasks and goals benchmarked for the Endoscopy Program as a team approach. Patient experience and conflict resolution skills are imperative for this leadership role; must demonstrate the values of the organization. Additionally, the incumbent makes appropriate arrangements and referrals to meet patient needs and advocates implementation of evidence informed practice.
This is a full-time position to work 7.5 hour day shifts, Monday through Friday. The expectation of this leadership role is that the Charge nurse is interchangeable to work within a full scope of practice providing patient care when required.
The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
This position is not a Supervisor for the purpose of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its corresponding obligations and liabilities.
